Dougie and I began our Monday Moon-day celebration with a calming, warming winter drink that both supports the immune system and aids in gentle cleansing. Plus, to us…it’s pure deliciousness.
What’s So Magical About Mushrooms And This Brew?
Medicinal mushrooms are some of my most potent healing tools. Back in 2010, a dream of the reishi mushroom led me to experimenting with the best sources of these magical creatures. Yes, I do consider them creatures — evolved beings capable of helping us activate our full potential as humans. They are silent helpers most of the time, creating networks under the surface and reconnecting the grid-lines of the planet. We connect deeper within our own beings when the planet is healed. BUT, consuming these gifts, becoming one with them —allows us to be great healers for ourselves and our brother and sister Earthlings.
Technically, reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum) is an adaptogen which means it can work with your body in ways that your body needs most. If your immune system needs to be stimulated or regulated, it adjusts its medicine to do just that. I was blessed to learn from George Lamoureux,* that this magical mushroom was revered in ancient China for its power to heal all “Three Treasures,” which is their ancient term for balancing our body, mind and spirit.
Reishi enhances immune cells, neutralizes toxins and helps eliminate infections, lowers your bad cholesterol, gently lowers your blood pressure, prevents blood clotting and more and more and more.*
Once Reishi came into my life, I opened to Plant Spirit Medicine and understood that our personal relationship to plants will dictate what healing they want to share with us. I was led to each herb in this recipe through a vibrational connection with the spirits of the plants themselves and offer you this very simple recipe as something that makes our family’s bodies feel amazing.
Chaga mushroom loves working with reishi. Chaga, who is also an adaptogen is extremely nutrient dense. It is often called “the mushroom of immortality.” It has a slightly coffee-like taste and makes a great way to easily receive mega-nutrition.
Holy basil is a great tasting stress reducer. Turmeric is a powerhouse of a liver supporter, helping to gently detoxify and support your natural process of detoxification. Cinnamon is really great for warming, blood flow and helping to metabolize sugar (all things Dougie’s and my body appreciate). Ginger is warming to the stomach and helps activate digestion. I also find it likes to work with turmeric to help rid of unwanted viral infections.
There are loads more potentials for using this recipe to heal. Many of the plants here have been used in cancer recovery, tumor recovery, candida recovery, depression recovery and digestive disorder recovery. There is no telling what it can do for you.

Magical Mushroom Elixir
Combine these ingredients with 3 quarts of water in a cast iron Dutch oven, then bring to a boil and simmer for 2-4 hours:
- 2 handfuls Reishi Mushroom Slices
- 2 handfuls Chaga Mushroom Bits
Add these ingredients and steep for 15 minutes:
- 1 cup Holy Basil tea leaf
- 1 cup Female Balancing Tea (or similar combination of raspberry leaf, peppermint, fennel, nettles, ginger, chamomile, oat straw, rose)*
Let cool slightly.
In a blender combine 1 -2 tbsp. of each dried herb with 2 cups of coconut milk and blend:
Portion out your tea in mugs, stir in the milk mixture and enjoy.
