Some People Just KNOW What to Eat: What’s Your Take?

Tell me, what’s your take on carbs? Are they good for you? Or bad? Where’d you read that? More importantly, how do you feel when you eat carbs? Or fats? Or sugar? Have you dabbled in superfoods, herbs, vaganism? Paleo? How about raw foods? Do tell.

What Food Works ?

Have you ever supermarket-stalked those uber sexy model-lookin’ babes whose skin glows and hair whisps in the breeze as they trot on their clouds of fairy dust passed you with carts full of …. What is that? What is she eating that makes her look so good? Then, maybe you get a confusing glimpse of what’s actually in the cart and think…. Oh maybe that’s for her boyfriend or something… Admit it! You want to know what works for people.

I know I did. I wanted that skin. But more-so, I wanted that energy. I used to be so deplete. And I pretty much always ate healthy according to our current but outdated food pyramid and FDA recommendations. But, as soon as I wised-up and did my own personal research and experimentation– I learned that the keys to eating healthy, and even eating to heal illness were really very simple. And, it all began with the notion of doing the opposite of what is publicly “advertised” as healthy.

How Much Does Food Really Matter?

Food Matters. It’s one of the main ways that we get energy. But, once you crack the code on what’s right for you– food doesn’t matter that much anymore. In order to get to this place of satisfaction, you often have to dig deep and really begin to notice how you feel. It can be a challenge, if you’ve been convinced that someone else like your doctor or the FDA could take care of your nutritional needs.

“They” tell us to eat low-fat, and I pretty much did until my late 20’s– replacing things I loved like butter with margarine which is chemically derived. This was not to stay trim, but instead to keep “healthy” and feeling good. But, butter can be a very healthy fat with brain-building, gut-building and hormonal balancing properties. It’s also rather grounding in nature and provides natural healthy calories to energize and keep your metabolism going. We are finding that many of us are deplete in these brain-building fats and experience headache, brain-fog and even autistic or Alzheimer’s-like symptoms where there is a deficiency in saturated fats and fatty acids. I learned this through experiencing my son’s autism journey with him as well as my own candida (systemic fungal infection) recovery.

Personally, I love fermenting raw, organic farmer’s market butter with some olive oil, coconut oil and raw honey to created a delicious, predigested spread that is easily absorbable by your body and has the power to help heal up a leaky gut. The fermenting process breaks down nutrients that may have been harder to digest. This even lessens the load that fats can have on your liver. We also love coconut oil, fatty fish and their oils, and sometimes egg yolks.Yum yum yum!

But, again, “they” disagree. They want you to believe that saturated fats are triggers for heart disease and bad cholesterol, even though they have the opposite effect for many. It’s interesting to me that our brains are in dire need of good fats, and yet doctors for the establishment would tell us to avoid them. Hmmmm… Some of the most beneficial foods in our autism recovery have been fermented cod liver oil, fermented raw butter, coconut oil, hemp oil, fish oil, and other oils. They are anti-inflammatory. When we were raw vegan, I only took cod liver oil out of our diet for about 2 months, just to experiment. For us, no raw vegan supplement proved to be a better replacement. With cod liver oil in particular, in his diet — my son has clearer speech, more organized thoughts and speech, is calmer and overall happier. There is also a noticeable difference in his skin. Without cod liver oil in his diet, he often wakes up with puffy eyes and a headache.

And this is trending now, by the way. So many people are waking up and learning what to eat to make them feel great… And ditching the old food pyramid. It’s highly probable that the old food pyramid (which is the current FDA food pyramid) grew out of an agenda to weaken us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Most of our “fresh” food is sprayed with chemicals that originated as weapons for Hitler’s army. That’s right, common pesticides were first used as neuro-gasses. So, ask yourself why this is not only in our food supply, but it is being mandated and subsidized while our organic food supply is being threatened by big GMO corporations like Monsanto (who are even patenting seeds that already contain pesticides).

I wonder if this whole Fake-Food Movement that’s been rolling out over the last 60+ years has something to do with our collective declining energy and health? Do you wonder this? I wonder why we would even need vitamin supplements. Why doesn’t our food have enough nutrition to sustain us?

I’m Not Buying It

I don’t take vitamins. I don’t eat tofu or other processed soy junkage. Soy, which is a largely subsidized GMO crop has been proven to lower thyroid function, and I’ve felt the energy-sucking effects first-hand. I’m fortunate to be sensitive and capable of recognizing how food effects me.

I don’t buy food enriched with vitamins. I don’t buy eggs with added “omega 3s.” I don’t buy diet foods, convenience foods, packaged –frozen health foods or foods stored in containers like aluminum and plastic that leach chemicals into what we eat. I don’t buy bottled water (unless in Mexico). I steer clear of fresh fruit unless it’s organic, because I’m quite sensitive to chemical sprays. I know this through personal experimentation, and process of elimination. It helps that you can find extensive research that points to the dangers of fake and franken-foods. But, then again, you can find proof for anything. For me, this is an empowering fact. It means that there are many truths and that you can forge your own path. What really works for you? Research the effects of foods that you are intuitively called to eat and cross-reference that info with sources from all sides. Learn why you feel tired after eating corn and why you crave salt or sugar. These are empowering tools. I bet you find that you need to create your own food truth.

Informed Indulgence

If I am going to splurge on a packaged snack, I am going to do it with style. I’m not going to hide from the facts. I am not fooled by the processed food industry. I know that none of it promotes real health. I know that if I eat a bag of chips, I’m not getting vitamins. I’m not getting clean fat or protein. And, depending on the quality of the product, I may be getting negative nutrition. Which is to say that the amount of chemicals and indigestible crap I’d be consuming might leave me hungry. And toxic ( which is a word that’s also very trendy right now).

I understand that vitamin pills will probably go un-absorbed and may even cause damage because they often do not contain the co-factors needed to fully absorb them.

But, I’m not a food priss. Sometimes I know that eating is what’s most important. Over-thinking on the food-front can drive you bonkers. And sometimes, I just plain like to eat to enjoy the taste of something.

So, if I am going to eat “junk food” I’m going to do it with style. I’m going to choose the ice cream because at a least that’s Matt Stone approved, and this dude knows what he is talking about. I met Matt at the Fitness Expo in LA where we both spoke about food. Matt mentioned that you can basically forget about proper food absorption if your body temperature is low. Well, guess what? I was a cold hands and feet girl forever! So are many of my clients who are also quite sensitive and intuitive people. And, I’ve always had nutrient absorption issues.

What does it matter that you’re eating the healthiest food on the planet if none of it is getting absorbed? Believe it or not, I had this issue myself. After using a raw food vegan, probiotic, superfood diet to heal myself from systemic candida, I experienced what Chinese Medicine would call Spleen Qi Deficiency, and also Spleen Dampness. in Chinese Medicine, this means that my temperature was low, my energy was low, fluids were not moving properly, I felt heavy. In essence it meant that raw foods, which are very cooling in nature did not actually heal my candida problem. They simply energized me enough to get to the next step. Most of my clients are in the same boat. Strangely enough my story was beginning to sound a lot like what Matt shared at the conference. I always had the chills. I had a weak bladder. I was underweight, and hungry enough to eat most anything that didn’t run away from me. And again, I was seeing parallels in my clients too. So, I had to dig deeper.

According to Matt’s research and self-experimentation (and work with his own clients), he found that no matter how “healthy,” and we’re talking really healthy like the organic, raw food crazy guru healthy, people ate…. It takes a warm body temp of at least 98.6 to keep the metabolism functioning. So, like I learned in Chinese Med Classes, if things are too cold, your spleen is not going to help turn your food into energy. From Matt’s perspective, we also see the mal effects low body temp have on hormones and therefore enzyme production. This could mean that for some people, eating a cooling raw food diet for a long time, may cause you to not absorb anything. Which kind of explains why I got those once-in-a-while cravings for pizza or ice cream.

Matt has found some healing power in the unlikely form of processed foods. Some processed foods have the ability to raise our body temps quickly and get us out of panic mode. That’s why we go for the chips or pretzels or pizza after we wait too long to eat. In a sense, we a following our intuition. Once your body temperature is raised you can go back to eating more balanced. This is not exactly a quick fix, although it may feel like it. For example, you can have a great relationship with a slice of pizza and completely regain energy and feel amazing, but for complete relief, you would need to find your true balance.

Think For Yourself

If you are having thyroid and adrenal issues, this would be something to think about.  What can you do to warm you up and start your metabolism going? I don’t advocate junk food for health– but I fully acknowledge its potential. I would hope that some sugar, salt fat and carb -laden natural dish could have the same effect. But, according to Matt Stone’s talk, ice cream is totally where it’s at.

So, I put it to the test.

I figured that at the very least, ice cream will provide me with some fat to get my metabolism going. And let’s not forget that it’s just plain delicious. I postulate that the joy response triggered by ice cream will boost my serotonin, make me happier, nicer and more likely to attract hot clients and cool conversations. Processed health foods, like soy protein powder, may do just as much harm to my body without making me smile. This way I also save money for the farmer’s market because ice cream is cheaper than power bars.

Experiment For Yourself

I’ve experimented with a few of Matt’s suggestions which for me translated into allowing myself to have some sugar, gluten and dairy, and less liquids. All liquids cool your body. This also relates to frequent urination and spleen dampness. Perhaps there were other nutritional factors in the cheese or bread that I had overlooked before. Typically, if you have candida overgrowth and spleen problems you’d want to avoid these foods that cause extra dampness or mucous in your body. Another crazy paradigm buster. These foods should’ve made me feel sicker. All it took me was to enjoy a small amount of this “new food” and a good intention, and my body temp is normal, I have more energy and feel much better. I think I might write another piece about how healthy food was killing me… Too dramatic?

Well, it was kind of killing me. My favorite part of this new food awakening is that I’m eating some sweet foods again, which simply opens up my options. I’d always had the sneaking suspicion that candida feeds more on imbalance than it does on sugar. But as part of our recovery from candida and autism, I removed all sugar for nearly a year. Even fruit. Maybe this does need to be done in extreme cases. I think I only required the ice cream jolt because I went from one extreme to another. As a quite sensitive person on all levels, not creating restrictions has been the best gift I’ve given myself.

Now I’m eating raw and cooked fish, an abundance of raw and cooked organic vegetables, some seeds and grains, some raw dairy– preferably fermented with BACTERIA, bone broth (bye bye vegan days), tons of coconuts, avocados, and occasionally pizza because it makes me so happy –and I’m traveling and having to improvise. I’m eating what I feel like eating. Simple stuff. I’m not saying “no” because of dogma. I’m saying “no” because I don’t want certain foods right now. Eating food and not skipping meals is far more important for me now than having the perfect meal. I’m having no reactions to some gluten or cheese. I’m feeling energetic. My skin would make the old me so freaken jealous. And, the raw fish feels very good for me. I digest it so well. I’ve laid off the quinoa for a bit and sometimes have some rice or lentils, because it’s what feels best now.

I’m sure as time goes by this too will change for me. When I was raw vegan I felt sooo good for a pretty long while. But, by nature I’m thin, cool, and sensitive. I feel much warmer and grounded with animal products in my diet.

Trust Your Gut

I’ve learned to eat intuitively, and go with the flow of change. My needs change. When I went raw vegan, there was a paradigm shift in me. One that had been brewing since the day I was born. Raw Veganism inspired me to eat slower, more consciously and closer to the earth. It inspired mucho gratitude and mucho physical and spiritual health. But, it so did not sustain me. There was a point when I had seizures and realized I was very deplete in nutrients and food energy that can only be gotten through incorporating animal products into my diet.

I hated the thought of eating animals. And, now that I’m in Mexico, foster-parenting chickens — I find my bleeding heart even more in-tune with nature. I truly don’t believe that any human can have all of the answers about what we NEED to eat. But, for some reason, right now– I’m flying on cloud BLISS with a small amount of meat in my diet.

Now, I don’t crave anything, because I don’t allow myself to become deplete. Food is delicious. Food helps bring people together. I’m an advocate for the cleanest most high-vibe eats possible, growing and sharing our own food, and being informed about what our food is made from so that we can make educated choices. And, now I see the purpose of foods beyond my slanted vegan perception. There is healing power everywhere!

Own Your Truth

I’m intuiting a lot of information about why many people are gravitating toward veganism and vegetarianism. It makes so much sense for the planet and does loads of good for personal detoxification. Raw food, in particular is vibrationally very high, and can help open your pineal gland. Many of my students intuitively go raw when taking Psychic Skool. But, there is so much that we don’t face as humans. Scientifically, it’s super difficult to really pinpoint where we even came from. We don’t necessarily “fit” in nature the way other animals do. So, how can we compare? A great raw vegan diet pretty much encompasses the necessary nutritional profile to keep you going…. If lots of other things are in place. I may go back to it one day. For now, the animals (fish) who I eat are okay with me consciously consuming them… Which I do a few times per month. I also fully understand that there is no death. Life energy continues infinitely.

No More “Guilty” Pleasures, I’ll Take Plain and Simple Regular Pleasure

The other night a friend and I laughed at how I knew all the words to some obscure Air Supply song. I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for those tunes my younger bro and I sang  in front of the TV while watching “Solid Gold.” Up until 2 days ago, anything 1980’s or chocolate, or crocheted,  or anything resembling a cupcake were all guilty pleasures. Not anymore. The guilt is gone and I’m jammin with my Trader Joe’s gluten-free vegan ginger snaps– that I am eating sans guilt despite the sugar.

A lot of guilt goes into and comes out of changing to the “healthier” side of things, you know what I mean? But, the worst I’ve created for myself comes from what I decide I want to eat. Once  you dive into learning what goes into our food — from the ingredients to the energy, processing, and scams behind who is making money by poisoning us with chemicals, gmos, and godknowswhat, your higher self doesn’t want to go back. Healthy food makes you feel food. It tastes good. And us smart and savvy peeps have found ways to even make it cost less, prevent and heal illness and give us enough energy to stay feeling young for long.

Coming to Chicago to visit family and  make our first Bliss Tour stop has taught me that I’ve had to let go of a little bit of my  “healthy” eating. That is because ultimately, I have to eat. I have these ideas of what I am supposed to eat, what I want, what I need, what I crave and all of that. But, my experiences here have taught me just how hard it can be for the average person to make these healthy choices. Whole Foods Market is more full of processed and sugary foods, than it is of “whole foods.”  The Farmer’s Markets cost 3x as much as the one in Santa Monica, and the discount organic market has older produce that is ready for the trash.  Believe me, you can find good, organic and healthy options here. I know it. I used to live here. But, living in California spoiled with variety, convenience and price. I never had to shop at Whole Foods in California. We bought everything at the farmer’s markets.

I initially felt guilty for making choices to buy fruit and veggies that I knew were sprayed with chemicals. Our family has gotten  sick for the first time in years. We were exposed to mold. And, I originally blamed that on my poor meal planning and poor shopping decisions.

But, I think the guilt hurts more than the pesticides.  It’s proven  that not only are emotions connected to our physical health, but that our heart vibration is the strongest vibration  we emit. If our hearts are heavy with guilt, that has the potential to harm us even more than what we eat. 

Pleasure, on the other hand… pleasure has the power to raise your heart vibration and actually bring physical healing into your body. So, what if I eat my chemical-laden grapes with the utmost gratitude and pleasure? What if I just enjoy them today because they are what I have? What if I give gratitude for the experience that helped me better understand how  most people have to struggle to get healthy food? It’s gotta work.

So, that’s what I am doing now. It’s important to me  to eat the best I can because it does make me feel my best. But, if I live rigid-style how am I going to help anyone? Diets stink.  I’m glad I discovered my guilt because I realized I was living in a diet mentality. When  you are on a diet you have “forbidden’ foods. This is never going to work in reality.

Guilt is one of those complimentary emotions granted to the good-hearted, bleeding hearts. Believe it or not, it’s one of the hardest emotions to get a handle on. It took me forever to realize how selfish it is to be guilty. How that emotion strips us away from ourselves because it often involves pleasing others. The only real remedy for this is joy — doing whatever truly makes the real you happy.

 

The next time you feel a tinge of guilt coming from your mama, your spouse or your inner critic, try smacking that experience in the face with some pure happiness. Stop what you are doing. Stop right in the middle of doing it and focus your attention on the happy part of it.  Be thankful that you have that experience.

It may be natural to feel guilty. But, that doesn’t mean it always has to be so. You can change your story. You can find the Bliss in any moment. I’m erasing guilty feelings all day long with a simple thought, and sometimes a bite of cookie.

Autism Recovery and Liver Cleansing

Cleansing our cells from the build-up of various environmental toxins was a huge part of our recovery. In fact, we’re still doing it. When my son was first labeled with autism,  he tested positive for many heavy metals, toxins, viruses as well as nutrient deficiencies. But lacked the  core strength to detoxify.

Learning to be patient with our bodies’ natural cleansing abilities and building strength so that we could detoxify without risk of re-absorbing those toxins is one of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn.

As a mom who discovers that her child is loaded with mercury, cadmium, aluminum, antimony, lead (and more), but deficient in the nutrients he needs to develop his brain, detoxify poisons, and live and grow — I wanted to simply kill the “beast” right away. But, my intuition set me on a slower path.

Our bodies go through natural phases of cleansing and re-building. We need the rebuilding phase to strengthen our detoxification systems.

It’s spring now (finally) for most of us. And, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine — spring is the season for cleansing. Your liver has more functions than we can count, and plays a major role in your ability to cleanse yourself of toxins. Your liver must filter every single food, chemical, and even emotion that passes through you.

I thought I’d share this interview that my husband Doug did for Body Ecology last year. In it, he talks about the delicate balance we needed to create in order to detoxify our son. From Body Ecology:

Q: It’s liver cleansing season. Doug, can you tell us how important detoxification was to your family during Dougie’s recovery and if you have changed his diet or added detoxification techniques during this time of year to help him cleanse more?

A: Well, it was clear to me very early on that my son, Dougie was filled with poisons. Many parents have different stories. But our son’s health gradually declined as a result of countless ear infections, throat infections, colds, fevers — ­ you name it. At this point, of course, he was also regressing developmentally, but I didn’t link the two right away. At first, we went the traditionally accepted route and sought medical doctors and medicines to tackle his infections. But, Dougie kept getting sicker. Once he had the croup he kept getting it over and over again. It seemed that he  never healed from one infection when another one popped up.

There was a part of me that always understood that there was this deeply rooted source of sickness inside of Dougie, and that maybe if we could conquer that we could get our little boy back. I wasn’t too familiar with the terms of detoxification yet.

At a certain point, the medicine just became too much.  My wife, Gina and Dougie were both sick for at least six months without relief from coughs, fatigue digestive pain, and pneumonia. Gina’s health and the fact that she could express her feelings helped us gauge what was going on with Dougie a little easier. Once, we sat in the E.R. for Gina because we were certain that she had mono.  They tested her. She had it. But, the doctor just told her to go home and rest. We were like, “What? Don’t you have a medicine for this?” And the ER doctor looked my wife in the eyes and said, “Honey you have been on way too many medications. They are not going to work for you anymore.” We were actually angry with him. We were just taught that there was a pill to solve any ailment. Gina couldn’t rest. She had to care for a sick baby all of the time. And they both kept getting sicker.

Soon after, we visited a new pediatrician for Dougie with the hopes of finding an answer to his chronic illness. We left with cough medicine, electrolyte enhancer, and another prescription for antibiotics. But we also left with a sense of hopelessness.

As Dougie screamed on the pediatrician’s table that day, with his eyes and nose full of mucous and his cough brutal, ­the doctor spent no more than ten minutes with him before just writing out a prescription and stating that we should give him a flu shot that same day.

And you know what? We would’ve done it. We always trusted doctors up until this point. But, Gina remembered her mom telling her that children should never be vaccinated when sick. We wondered if maybe the vaccine could cure his illness. We had no idea what vaccines really did. We just chose to listen to my mother-in-law’s advice for once. At the time we declined the flu shot, we had no idea of our rights to even do so. Gina just said that we would bring Dougie back for the vaccine when his infections were cleared. Thankfully we never did.

So, when my wife was boiling up the garlic tea to help Dougie push out his sickness, I completely understood that we needed to get rid of the infections that were causing him pain. I understood that the medications were somehow suppressing his natural ability to heal. After all, I could get sick with a cold and get well in two days. But, we chose the best doctors for Dougie, with the feeling that giving our son lots of medicines when he was ill, was giving him so much more than our parents could give us. He was vaccinated 24 times by the age of 18 months. We really thought we were doing the best for him.

We got letters in the mail from the mayor of our city reminding us when to vaccinate. We posted it on our fridge. We were new parents and we were proud to be able to provide such outstanding care for Dougie.

I wanted him to be healthy. My wife and I would do anything in our power to help relieve his pain.

We began detoxing him right away. Even before we found Body Ecology. Even before we completely took him off the prescription medicines, over-the- counter fever reducers and French fries, Gina was giving him Epsom salt baths and trying to get him to drink garlic and ginger tea, which were things she learned about through her research.

Still, we were both afraid of what might happen to Dougie if we removed the antibiotics. We knew that pneumonia could be deadly. Gina and her mom would hold Dougie down to make sure he got his correct dosage. Gina would be on the phone with the doctor’s office asking for advice for how to get the medicine into him. I remember her asking the nurse one day, “When can I stop giving him these medicines, they make him so unhappy?”  Our doctors and nurses felt for us. But they did not have answers that helped us. Poor Dougie got to a point where he didn¹t trust us at all. He would seal his mouth shut so tight that if we wanted to feed him anything, he resisted.

I grew impatient with my wife when her attempts at natural healing didn’t seem to work. But, looking back I have to admit that although we were getting him to drink homemade detox teas, we kept him on medications from the doctor for quite some time and we didn’t really change his diet.

I mention all of these details because it took this much time and this much accumulation of toxicity — infections, medications, vaccinations and the negative stress to create the toxic build up inside Dougie. It took so much time for me to fully grasp his toxic load. Over time, we found out that he has tremendously high levels of cadmium, antimony, mercury and other heavy metals.

We saw his health improve quickly after we began the Body Ecology Diet with Dougie.

I understand now that he couldn¹t properly detoxify because he was still being poisoned. Even my stress over trying to get the medications into him and worrying about his health added to his toxic load. Our family home energy was thick with stress.

Little by little we began to recover his physical health by adding fermented foods like coconut kefir and cultured green salsa. We also gradually got rid of gluten, casein, sugar,  and processed foods. I listened to Donna Gates’ Detoxification series  recently, and learned that the body cannot detoxify if it has no energy. Dougie was completely depleted of energy when we first began Body Ecology.

But in very little time, he began coming back to us. Once the coughs and infections were under control, ­ boy did we see detox! I mean he released so much junk in his stool. As a parent, it was very sad to see that all of these things were stored inside my baby’s body.

But, we had to go slowly. His body was still very fragile. Often times I would come home from work and Dougie would be frantic and tantrumming. We didn’t have all the answers as to why he was acting in such extreme behaviors. We doubted the diet at times.

However, Gina was determined that this diet would work, and until she had a
really great grasp on how to do it  effectively for Dougie , we did not practice any other forms of detox for him. Of course, we always felt like we could be doing more, but in the end, I think slow and steady progress is what got us this far.

After about a year of Doing Body Ecology, Gina got up the courage to do home enemas on herself and Dougie to help further detox. I was against this at first. It sounded really strange. But, when Dougie began asking for enemas, I knew they were doing something great for him.

In fact, although Dougie was non-verbal for a long time, when he was receiving an enema, he would often speak full and complete sentences. This was a sign to us that the build-up of toxins had something to do with his lack in verbal language.  Gina added home enemas, skin brushing  castor oil packs, sound and movement therapy, massage, Reiki and raw foods to our detox plan back in April of 2007 and Dougie’s development soared.

We’ve never gone back. These detox tools remain a part of our life. We rotate them in and out. We are at a point where we don¹t do enemas unless Dougie asks for them. Because, we know he will ask if he needs them. I think it’s important also to understand that although most of us are detoxing daily, our kids with toxic overload seem to be very fragile. They cannot handle very deep cleanses. So you always have to be building them up, energizing them, nourishing them, and making digestion easy so that they don¹t have extra stuff to release.

During the season of liver detox, Gina likes to add in a special fermented beet juice and cultured beet cracker made with turmeric and artichoke among other things. Dougie loves these and they definitely help him cleanse.In fact, because of my wife, my son has learned more about his body than most adults I know. He will tell us when something is good for his tummy or his brain.

We continue to see him detoxify from the many poisons that were built up inside of him. But, the process is much easier now that we have a real handle on how detoxification works naturally in the body.

Doug recently left his job and moved his family across the country in order to spend more valuable time with his son, Dougie. Autism Recovery: autism Undone Undoing the “Symptoms” Behind the Misunderstood Label of autism

The system says he’s autistic because that’s how they define environmental toxin overload: It’s not their fault — we must change the system!

To me, autism represents the overload of various toxins in an underdeveloped immune system.

This toxic burden eventually disrupts organ function and manifests itself as outward neurological, developmental, social and sensory disharmony. When the world labels an individual’s condition “autism” –the levels of toxicity and depths to which the body expresses this must be severe. This means that most of us are toxic to some degree. However, with autism, we are often dealing with immune systems that have been assaulted since pre-birth, rendering them virtually unable to naturally release these toxins like the body was designed to do.

Scientifically, toxins can build up through genetic predisposition; diet; bacterial, fungal, parasitic, viral and yeast infections; heavy metal poisoning; pollution; and are often passed down from mother to child during pregnancy and birth. Spiritually, toxins can also build up through stress and negative energy. An immune system on toxic overload can suffer malnutrition (regardless of how much food is consumed), neurologic malfunction, all kinds of allergies and autoimmune problems, sensory issues, and every other familiar trait that is regularly attributed to autism.

Most sources will classify autism as a developmental disorder, where speech, socialization and perception are delayed or seriously impaired. I reject definitions that only speak to the outward symptoms of this condition. Such sources will also neglect to offer advice for curing the autism problem.

Foundations are built on the principle of raising money to support families affected by autism – money that will help them pay for medicine and intervention. Medicine and support to help them cope with the painful symptoms, strange behaviors, and society’s ignorant remarks about their children.But nothing that gets to the core and urges them to change significant things about their lives. Families need to be aware that coping can only go on for so long.Families deserve the hope that their affected children will not have autism forever!

A Spectrum of Poison

The level of toxic build-up is as unique as the individual – resulting in a spectrum disorder. What we know for certain is that inner imbalance equals outer chaos.

When we see an individual acting out autistic symptoms like hand flapping, head banging, spinning or tantruming, – it is often a sign that the body is struggling to ease the pain of these toxins. The body wants to heal itself; and will continue to do so, in some cases causing disease and disorder as a last resort.

That is why, to me, autism also represents a final call for help – and a sign that positive change is on the way!

A person affected by autism often has great sensitivity to the unnatural (foods that have been chemically sprayed or genetically modified and overly processed, air and water pollution, traditional western medications and vaccinations, electromagnetic fields from cell phones, wifi, etc.).

I have personally witnessed remarkable transition when these unnatural things have been replaced by healthier lifestyle choices.

More children are diagnosed with autism as we continue to vaccinate them and add poisons to our planet.We have lost confidence in our own bodies’ abilities to heal ourselves and have let BIG PHARMA take control of how we medicate and prevent disease.

This is why autism was given to us. We have forgotten how to listen to our bodies, and we have traded infectious disease for chronic and autoimmune DISSARAY.

Nature Gives us The Tools to Heal: Each Person’s Needs are Unique

The best scientists support a path toward natural healing and have reported on the dangers of such toxic build-up. However, it has taken epidemic rates of autism diagnosis, (as well as other forms of toxic manifestations like allergies, ADD, and alzheimer’s ) for some of us to recognize that the way we’ve chosen to live for the last century has drastically depleted our collective health.

Conveniences like microwave ovens, and alleged safety regulations that have been placed on our food supply — like the homogenization of dairy and the irradiation of fruits and vegetables are alone causing mass malnutrition. If our food is no longer food, how can we fuel our minds?

As a disorder, autism unravels when we embrace the healing power nature provides us. This includes diet change, emotional and spiritual practices, touch and sensory therapies, and methods that evoke positive energy.

I welcome autism because it will not be cured with a pill. It will not be cured by a teacher or a doctor. In fact it requires a complete paradigm shift from the modern frame of mind.

The Gift of Autism

In order to relieve the pain that autism brings we must also honor its gift. Allowing these truly brilliant children to break through autism, means that we are giving a new hope to the world. Hope that we can finally truly learn how to heal ourselves from whatever ails us. And, as these beautiful minds become clear, these children will be the teachers that lead us into a healthier more conscious future.

Autism may just be a necessary step toward the collective detoxification of our species.

Your Gut. Your Immunity. A Key to Unraveling Autism

A child is born with a permeable gut which allows him to properly assimilate the good bacteria from his mother and benefit from the colostrum in her milk. Body Ecology refers to this as nature’s first vaccine.

This intestinal bacteria and nutrition from Mom sets the stage for the person’s immunity throughout life. This teaches the child’s body to properly respond to illness, by pushing illness out. (TH1 immune response) But, when we consider drugs used during birth, C- sections, immunizations right after birth and the stress endured in the modern labor room – we are not setting the stage for a healthy life with most of our children.

Mercury is Not the Only Problem with Vaccines

Vaccines, besides being loaded with viruses and metals, teach the body the wrong immune response (TH2 response). This forces the body to internalize illness. Thus creating autoimmune problems.

The vaccinated newborn’s gut is not allowed to develop.If the child is then put on powdered milk and soy formulas they begin to form their first digestive problems. Parents may notice this as colic, restlessness and tantrums –or there may be no signs at all.

Since our immune systems are primarily governed by our digestive tracts (colon, liver, kidneys), we find that many people on the autism spectrum begin to reject foods that cannot be easily digested and assimilated.

These foods will vary because we must consider severity and of course, the individual’s uniqueness. Gluten, casein and sugar top the list of frequently rejected foods – all of which are unsurprisingly often overly-processed, over-eaten by the general population and farmed unnaturally. If the person’s system cannot digest these which most of us consider to be food — imagine what happens when you add chemicals, fillers and whatever makes Twinkies last 50 years!

S.A.D Refers to the Standard American Diet.

And, it is sad that so many of us are filling our bodies with “foods” that have no nutritional value.

The autistic digestive tract cannot take the overload. They don’t just get stomach aches, fatigue and pimples. They lose awareness of their surroundings, they suffer horrible frustration and physical pain. They lose their words and abilities to speak their minds. They may feel the need to bang their heads or rub their faces on the wall because their skin feels numb, and they yearn for some sensation. Many children also suffer seizures.

Toxic Behavior

We have discovered behavior patterns that are directly related to specific toxins; such as incessant spinning as a result of ammonia (from protein) overload. We have heard that some children walk on their toes because it relieves the pain of a heavy gut.

We know that often overload of toxins causes mal-absorption of necessary nutrition. And, this results in malnutrition. Any good scientist will tell you that malnutrition and indigestion are the basis of most diseases.When one organ is not getting what it needs to function, all organ function begins to dwindle.

When toxins thrive the true individual cannot thrive.

Moving Beyond the Label

When I hear that there is no definite cause or cure for autism – I hear fear and laziness. I envision a collective ego that thrives on illness and disorder. I envision a system that does not want these children to break free because it would jeopardize their jobs, their beliefs, their reputations and of course THEIR MONEY.

If families identify with autism, they will be offered sympathy, statistics and half-hearted research that will inspire them to hang in there. This frame of thinking allows disease to prosper. Modern medicine profits on illness. By subscribing to the “there is no cure” bandwagon — we are keeping the negativity alive.

We are made to believe that milk does a body good and immunizations protect us.I continuously read about the dispute over vaccinations and how we are still really unsure. I am not unsure. Injecting poison into a baby is a bad thing. A bad thing! And if that poison doesn’t manifest itself as autism, it is likely to trigger allergies and chronic illness.

How long do we really want to keep playing Russian Roulette with vaccinations, processed foods, and artificially flavored lifestyles? One out of six children born today will be affected by this in childhood. And what happens when they grow up? Where do you think cancer comes from? How about Alzheimer’s?

Well, my family doesn’t want sympathy from those who refuse to research beyond the obvious. We are blessed beyond belief to even be in the same world as these children.We just want you to stay out of our healing journey, unless you are going to acknowledge that we are here. We want you to stop lying to our friends who are just discovering that their baby has a disorder which you call autism.

Parents must not be made to believe that there is some mystery behind why their beautiful little one regressed from bubbly to dazed in a matter of months! They deserve to know that their children will function properly in society! We must no longer portray children who are drastically affected by the many poisons that we have created, as some kind of idiot savants with weird behaviors!

If their little bodies were only allowed to thrive in a non toxic world, we would see more of the genius and less behavior.And, that’s why they are going to break through. Because at the core they are smarter than this system. They have the key to the continuation of humanity.

We know that there have been great scientific advancements to a cure. And quite frankly, I am grateful for all that science has done to lead me to my answers. But, there is too much miscommunication about what to do with those answers. The CDC suggests that parents discuss vaccinations amongst each other and with their pediatricians. Well, when they advertise for immunizations on the radio, what’s a parent supposed to believe?

We have plenty of great schools and programs that help. Thank you. We have tried them and we love our wonderful teachers. But, nobody has taught the teachers that there are reasons behind this.

If teachers were aware of the gut/brain connection and how environmental toxins trigger autism, these teachers would be much better equipped.

American parents should be able to rely on their government for the most up-to-date information on illnesses like this. But, our CDC’s list of recommended physicians isn’t very well rounded. DAN Doctors are changing things! Real medical doctors who advocate proper nutrition and detoxification as a means of actually RECOVERING autism are making huge strides!

We are not merely interested in helping these kids, we are interested in completely recovering them. I know that it’s a system, and I place no blame on individuals within the system who have just been doing their jobs with good intentions.

But, if those individuals are not planning to step up for the better of my baby – then I ask them to simply step down. We are here creating positive changes, and our words deserve to be heard. We deserve to be able to reveal the truth.

Their Autism Does Not Exist.

I will not prepare my son for a lifetime of not being “right” inside himself. My son is thriving and will continue to emerge from the mask created by the toxins in his body.His recovery has everything to do with eating food that provides real nutrition and heals the gut from early assaults.He is healing because his parents will not allow his little body to be attacked by vaccines any longer. And, we are not afraid of the so-called consequences.

We know that we are building his immune system to a point where he can prevent disease on his own.Geez, if everyone knew this then we wouldn’t need many vaccines would we?Because after all, it is quite likely that disease will spread if everyone just stops vaccinating, right? That is unless they all begin eating real food, and looking into their own unique nutritional and spiritual needs for balance. If we did that, we wouldn’t need so much medicine. Because disease would be something we read about in history books.

Okay, so I understand the system’s need to keep us sick. But, I’m not buying those little pills any more!

We are moving toward a greater awareness of the consequences of our past actions. We have been given a chance to change things, and I am confident that our children will experience a healthier world!

Our autism Recovery Story

My son will be four in 13 days. And, two years ago, our own friends and family doubted he’d survive his many health challenges with so little scarring. He is Dougie. He is emerging through what the world is calling “autism.” And, he is by far the STRONGEST person I know.
The newborn Dougie was every parent’s dream. After a complicated pregnancy disrupted by a mis-diagnosed miscarriage, placenta previa, early contractions and dilation, candida skin eruptions, and ignorant remarks from a group of non supporters – I was blessed to have a healthy happy baby boy. I stared at him sleeping for the first three hours of his life.

In order to ensure that our boy’s health remained vibrant, his daddy and I employed the city’s most expensive pediatrician. I’m talking about one who charged $700 for a well visit with immunizations (after insurance, of course). Oh, how my heart sank when we couldn’t afford two of the recommended shots according to the recommended schedule!

But, our baby was sleeping through the night in his swing, sleeping through trips to the movies, friends’ parties, and car rides. The kid slept so much, my husband and I brought him on dates. My expensive pediatrician assured me, on one of our midnight-worry-calls, that all of this sleeping was a gift, and that I should revel in it. And, so I did.

And, when my dermatologist told me that the white rashes Dougie was getting were a direct reflection to the hormones in my breast milk — and that my baby was in fact suffering from ACNE, I weaned Dougie from mother’s milk. Colic began with dairy-based formula, but I never made the connection. Our E.P. (expensive pediatrician) assured me that the brand we selected was sooooo close to breast milk, and that I made the right choice. I didn’t want to poison my kid with my ruined milk, so I traded my happy sleeper for a rash-less night crier.
By the time he was ready for food he was in love with spinach, squash and bananas. We chose almond and rice milks over dairy and his tummy issues subsided. But, I regrettably kept him on formula for 14 months, because the E.P. made a case for the “unrivaled” calcium source. He was pooping about seven times a day, but at this point I knew nothing of the problem that symbolized.

I became more confident in my mommy skills as Dougie learned to walk, talk and ask for things he wanted. I knew that I wasn’t eating dairy myself. And I knew he didn’t need it either. We filled him with wholesome home cooked and raw organic foods. We made sure we chose quality food sources of fats, protein, and other essential nutrients. He craved bananas. We made sure that he never got processed foods, candy or typical un-natural kid food. And, yeah we experienced many upturned noses because of this. But the result was that my 2 year old never needed prescription meds.

And despite the life-sucking day jobs, threat of home foreclosure, getting disowned by some family members, and MY chronic ear infections, my husband and I were overjoyed at being parents.

My husband, Doug, brought Dougie to get his next round of shots while I was at work. I had an eerie feeling about it, but just couldn’t determine a good reason not to vaccinate. I just didn’t fully understand what we were doing to Dougie. And, that’s when fever and flu entered our lives.

I put on my Healer Helmet and got him better with magic elixirs of vitamins and herbs. My parents thought I was nuts.

But before I knew it, I was facing my own doctor and my own chest x-rays and blood tests that revealed I needed to rest. I had pneumonia and had apparently held it at bay for months with my natural therapies. My doctor was disgusted at the bottles of oil of oregano, colloidal silver and other goodies I brought to show him I was taking care of myself. I still didn’t fully “GET IT.”

Soon, I was being injected with various antibiotics that made it hard for me to hold my head up. My mom was taking care of Dougie. And, Dougie was in NEED of prescription meds for the first time in his life. Of course, the nurse comforted me with the fact that all kids get sick all the time, and antibiotics were simply a part of life.

I felt as though I failed him by not being there to cook his meals and make his “get better” tea. He was placed on 4 back to back rounds of antibiotics. And from Christmas Eve through mid January, he regressed into a dazed state of consciousness. He lost all of his language and had no emotional response to pain. He cried or screamed almost all the time, and refused to eat anything but pizza.

By January’s end, I picked up my head, opened my laptop, and confirmed to myself and to my best friend that Dougie had autism. At this time, my husband was too sensitive to hear the word because it held so many negative connotations for him. Dougie was so sick and his daddy was so scared. I longed for someone to scream at. Someone to talk to. But, at this point I wasn’t sad or guilty. I was determined to find a cure.
Our financial predicament left us shacking up in my brother-in-law’s basement for a few months. God bless them for not killing me as I embraced the weirdness of self-healing.

Doug and I are not those parents who took our child from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what happened. Not only could we not afford it, but our experience with doctors taught us that they (at least the ones we knew of) would not have an answer. I refused to take the money we could use for getting better and hand it over to a doctor, just to hear “I’m so sorry Mr. and Mrs. Bliss, your son has autism.” I can’t even imagine the dread those parents must feel when being sold the “no way out” approach to autism. Because we were broke, we were spared this. We never got a set of blinders or a list of therapies to help us cope.

I didn’t want to cope. I wanted to cure this. But, the autism battleground had been trudged by some dedicated people who were far more educated than me, and none of them could find a cure. I knew I had to do it differently. I knew I had to embrace Dougie’s gifts. I remember explaining this to a non-mom girlfriend who reassured me of the value of early interventions like psych drugs and speech therapies. Instead of killing her I dove inside my computer.

One half hour of research solidified the Candida question that kept popping up in my mind. We definitely had it. I had to cut sugar from our diets. A few clicks later I found a woman who lived in my state and had successfully recovered her son from autism. I sent her an email and she called me the next day. She gave me hope that I could reverse Dougie’s condition with diet. We talked for 2 hours and she referred me to the bedrokcommunity.org – who have been my backbone and best friends through this journey.

I was now coming to the deeper understanding of gut health as it relates to brain function. I introduced cultured vegetables and coconut kefir to Dougie’s diet, using a tablespoon to 4oz each day for a month – AND WE GOT EYE CONTACT BACK!! The cultured veggies helped his taste buds accept greens and gluten free grains – AND HE STARTED SAYING “THOMAS THOMAS” after his favorite train. He was getting physically stronger too, and so some more autistic symptoms began to surface. Dougie hand-flapped, licked the floor and the walls, toe-walked, used repetitive language, like “Thomas, Thomas,” and would smash his face into the floor or walls. He was mystified by wheels. But, he was becoming happier and showing it. He still wasn’t responding to his name. His behavior was very hard to handle for me, as I wanted to see more results.

Another month passed and I learned that trusting my gut meant going back to my spirituality. I prayed and meditated a lot. One moment I was blending green sludge for my son to drink and the next I was screaming in excitement and horror over the phone to my mom “I saw bugs in his poop.” Yeah, bugs. Weird stuff. And each time Dougie released something overly nasty in diaper… he gained more skills. The diet was working! But not enough for anyone to believe me.

That hurt.

My mom was so loving and my dad just kept his mouth shut. But everyone was whispering behind our backs…. wondering if the boy was getting enough protein or this or that other nutrient. And, I realized they were wearing blinders too. They too were duped by the “milk does a body good” mindset . My mom, who slaved over delicious home-cooked meals every day of my life, didn’t understand the gift that good food gives our bodies. No one understood me like the moms at the BEDROK community.
Their level of understanding goes beyond diet cures. They helped me realize that Dougie is unique. I could do Body Ecology the generic way and get some pretty great results. Or I could apply it to Dougie’s particular needs, and consider his toxins, and deficiencies — and fully recover him from autism.

We are definitely still learning. We have embraced our son as a unique being with very special talents. His spark shines brighter as we peel away the layers of damage. We no longer focus on curing him. He has a sickness that gets better each day, but it does not define him.
In time, we’ve learned to tweak his diet to address his needs. He has now adapted to a high raw and mostly vegan diet. Something he could’ve never handled in the beginning. He does get brain food like the essential fats of cod liver oil and coconut oil. He drinks about a quart of coconut kefir each day which balances out the good gut bacteria, fills him with minerals, and makes digestion of other foods a breeze. He drinks green smoothies each morning and loooves peas with apple cider vinegar. The kid craves spirulina now! What a gift!

By first focusing on his gut, we’ve prepared him to eat a wider variety of foods. As long as he gets his cultured foods, he can handle sweeter fruits, beans, and grains much better than before. In the last 2 months he went from speaking in two-word sentences to complex sentences.

We embrace each moment for what it can teach us.

We study poop, tongues and skin color. We rely on our instincts, our research and our friends who are in the same boat. To date, we have only done one test to confirm the presence of heavy metals from vaccines and environment.

My almost four year old drinks green, plays air guitar, and is beginning to read. What more could a mommy ask for. He IS my dream come true!

Should the Validity of Vaccine Poisoning Be up for Debate? Dougie and I think NOT!

The vaccine debate is certainly not over, but we feel that we are better educated and armed with tools to keep us healthy and safe from the anger that fueled this post. Such is the journey of the Blissed Life

Today I left dishes piled in the sink and butternut squash squished into the carpet because news of the “battle” between mom-actresses Jenny McCarthy and Amanda Peet urged me to write. Both parents undoubtedly care and believe they are working for a necessary cause. However, this war between two young non-doctor icons really cheapens the debate over the safety of vaccines. Mothers can heal our children. We do it all the time. I don’t want parents to become disillusioned by the sugar-coated poll they’ve got going on at Ecorazzi today. I am disgusted that my son suffers from documented metal poisonings, and media thinks it’s a good idea to stage a fight between parents of two completely different types of children. Is it really so important to decide who’s right?

Open Letters to Jenny McCarthy and Amanda Peet: Jenny first.

Jenny,

I never cry about autism. But, Jenny, I cried through the first 12 pages of “Louder than Words.”

I sunk into the book, dripped tears on the pages – then looked up and realized I was sitting in the middle of the Borders Books on State Street in Chicago. I finished the entire book there in the store, sitting on one of those little kid proof chairs. People stared. And, I thanked God that I missed my train to Detroit, so that I had the opportunity alone to read your words. I cried when I saw you on Oprah. I cried as I watched you speak to Eckhart Tolle on Skype. And today, the tears welled up when I realized the obstacles you’ve endured for daring to make life safer for children like mine.

I cried because I hate to think of a nation that allows children to remain sick for the sake of money and makes a mockery out of those who suffer.

Strong moms like you who confront the media, the AAP and others who claim that poison is somehow no longer poisonous when injected into a three -hour-old boy through a syringe, make it easier for main-stream moms to relate to these dangers. Children are being saved because of your work.

Thank you. Thank you for helping open my eyes to the real dangers of vaccines. The danger of not being “allowed” to freely speak the truth in a way that can save our children. The dangers of misinterpreting scientific information.

Thank you for connecting to this community in such a human, honest way. You are a remarkable mother. From one south-side- catholic-chic to another –I know the need to break down barriers and defeat those who say you “can’t.” And, I am here with you advocating freedom of health for all of our little ones.

Keep doing what you’re doing because you are healing the world.

I’m a mom just like you. I understand the depths women are willing to go to for the sake of our children. And, when I discovered what helped my boy recover from autism, I too wanted to spread the word and help as many as I can.

If my son didn’t get infected with autism, I may have looked at parents who don’t vaccinate as primitive or neglectful. I wish I had done my research before deciding to go through with the shots. Luckily, your research proved beneficial and your child didn’t suffer an adverse reaction. I pray that those who follow in your footsteps experience similar results.

Whether one mom is right or wrong about how to raise our children should not be up for public debate. You were right for your child and I am right for mine. In the past, I blindly trusted my doctors and tried to enjoy the benefits of natural health while having the protection of western medicine.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as I planned. And, now I am detoxing my son.

Amanda, please understand that all babies are not like yours. Some may be predisposed to disrupted natural detox. The induced T2 immune response from vaccines may keep them from releasing properly (HERE.) For whatever reason, Amanda, it seems that as we inject infants and children with known poisons, we continue to see an increase of the severe gut/brain inflammation (HERE) known as autism.

As far as I can see, immunizations do protect against the spread of infectious disease. But, where’s the independent study that proves this? What about other amazing natural ways of boosting the immune system? My son hasn’t had a cold in two years.

Do you really believe that vaccines are safe enough as they are? As a mom, wouldn’t you like to see my son tolerate them? Doesn’t he deserve to be immunized in a way that won’t harm him? And, furthermore, if they are truly the answer — then why would you need to worry about your child becoming infected by an un-vaxed peer?

Jenny McCarthy, and moms like her are simply begging that parents be given the right to choose not to inject hazardous chemicals into their babies. But, we are also calling for the greening of all immunizations.

I want vaccinations to work. I want them to protect against contagious diseases while not harming the immune system. But, since we are all unique individuals, we may not all be able to reap the benefits.

I urge you to look into who published the studies that you researched. I urge you to consider their motives.

Do vaccines need a spokeswoman? Do you speak for a drug or a child?

Children with autism need a voice. Today I am that voice. When more folks are out there blindly touting vaccines – autism grows. Your stance saddens me, but I want to believe that it simply comes from a mother who trusted the research she read.

Let us empower parents to heal their children. Media like this only conditions us to stop trusting our guts and expanding our knowledge.
