Fermented Quinoa Milk

The Incas knew about this magical grain…. have you tried it yet?

If you haven’t already added quinoa to your diet, you probably should. This grain-like gluten-free seed is so versatile and absolutely delish.

I used it to make my vegan guacamole burgers last week, I use it in salads, wraps and even make milk out of it.

You can make quinoa milk much like you make rice milk or almond milk and  add  it to smoothies, soups or chocolate — YUM!  Of course, I like to take it one step farther.

I’ve been known to ferment just about anything I get my hands on, and why not? Fermented foods are the most powerful of all super foods because they are predigested.

When you ferment quinoa milk you add living bacteria and enzymes to it. These bacteria live in your digestive system and create your immunity.

Make your own fermented quinoa milk

Equiptment

  1. High speed blender
  2. 2 quart sized sterile glass jars with lids
  3. nut milk bag or strainer

Ingredients

2 cups raw quinoa ( I buy mine in bulk)

1 quart pure water

pinch sea salt

1/4 cup coconut kefir, home-made kefir or strong probiotic powder.

Optional

vanilla, stevia or agave, mesquite, maca

Process

  1. Soak your quinoa overnight in quart-sized  glass container with a pinch of sea salt ( in fridge or on the counter)
  2. Rinse quinoa and add to blender with 1 quart pure water
  3. Blend for 30 seconds
  4. Drain quinoa pulp by using a nut-milk bag (found at natural grocers) or a strainer
  5. Pour the liquid into a sterile glass jar
  6. add 1/4 cup kefir or tbsp probiotic powder and seal jar
  7. Make sure jar is sealed and clean
  8. Set out to ferment at 70-80 degrees for 18-24 hours
  9. Drink as is or add sweetener and flavors listed above

This is so much healthier than the store-bought pasteurized probiotic drinks, because it doesn’t contain added sugars, colors or preservatives. It’s raw, its delicious and I hope you love it.

What is the President Eating?

Last week when my son Dougie asked me to buy carrot seeds because he saw Mrs. Obama plant them on Sesame street.  In fact, he wants to plant everything from mushrooms to pizza to apples and berries. He even asked to plant fish.

I can’t imagine a time when I’d have to say no to this gorgeous request because there are no seeds left or seeds have become illegal. But, do you know that that is actually a possibility?

“Bills” “statutes” and “laws”  that threaten our food safety and freedom to choose what we eat continue to get passed while we drink the Koolaid. We have okayed the  production of GMO seeds, pesticides that cause autoimmune disease and autism,  and we drink water full of chemicals like fluoride — a known toxin that keeps the public complacent.

Makes me wonder what the president is eating. What’s he feeding his girls? Remember that organic garden at the white house? Is it chock-full of Monsanto seeds?  Are they at least saving healthy foods and herbs  for their families?

Organic whole foods and herbs helped my family heal from autism, depression, seizure disorder and systemic candida — which was caused by vaccinations, environmental toxins, stress and mineral deplete eating. I know I feel good when I eat well, and when I drink the water for too long I feel pretty hopeless too.

Mr. Obama’s “Audacity of Hope” was so inspiring.  An Illinoisan like me, I actually met him in person while I was serving with Americorps. He served with us for a day and left me feeling like he SHOULD be the president.  What a great spirit!

So, whatever he is eating now, I know its not fermented because I’m sure his mind would be a little more clear. But I have not lost hope. Not in  Mr. Obama. And not in this planet.

When my friends are down and making bad decisions, I send them healing energyI make them home made foods that balance their moods and their systems. They never stay in a funk for long.

So, this week, I’m making extra fermenteds and healthy food, and offering up the good vibes to our president.

I feel like the stakes are quite high right now, and we don’t have time to bash anyone. We have time to call out the truth and work for our collective Bliss.

We are gearing up to participate in Laura Bruno’s Ocean’s Eleven-Eleven — a collective effort of “expert” energy workers and lovers all around the world to offer our expertise in the art of positive change.  Please join us. We’ll have our first go at it May 1.  I’m going to be teaching an “Autism Undone class in chicago that day and am dedicating the day to this mega healing.

When all the trees have been cut down, when all the animals have been hunted, when all the waters are polluted, when all the air is unsafe to breathe, only then will you discover you cannot eat money. ~ Cree Prophecy

What are some ways you feel we can energetically activate positivity into the system that is threatening our safety and health?

Bliss Tour, Chocolate, Reiki and a Sustainable Lifestyle

This Post was originally written in January 2011, at the beginning of our Bliss Tour! It’s cool to see how far we’ve come — buying and selling the RV, traveling the US and living in Mexico for 6 months. Life is BLISS!

Back in December 2010, I drew the “retreat card” from a deck of angel cards and the events that have ensued have been crazy style amazing.  I gotta say that as an energy worker and one who constantly witnesses the results of the “super natural” in action –I’m quite the skeptic. I’m not one for tarot cards. I’m not one for listening to “guides” or psychics — UNLESS the messages ring true for me on a deep level. I mean logic has got to play some role in my decision-making.

That retreat card symbolized the simple sustainable adventurous life that Doug and I have dreamed of our whole lives. 2 years ago, the same energy brought us to Santa Monica, CA to get healthier, expand our minds and our business ideas. Things just move fast in Bliss Land.

We’re growing so quickly, we can’t help but feel the urge to use that expansive energy to spread the Bliss to you. I recently wrote a blog titled “How your intuition can save the world.” This trip is my husband’s and my intuitive answer to the next step in fulfilling our purpose.

How can we all live a more sustainable, Blissy, earth-loving life?

We hope to find out. Purging more possessions and gearing up to live in and travel via RV (on veggie fuel and/or zero emissions vehicles), composting, wild food forging, planting, unschooling, sharing from our hearts will  help us discover that. So will connecting with all of you.

We feel that there is a better way to feel good and accomplish your goals, and we’re on the road to discover that. It’s time to change things around. Re-allocate the wealth to the people, shift our priorities and wake up to what we can do to help.

Our gift is primarily our energy and our experience. By giving of our truest selves we hope to inspire you to do the same and find your purpose.

Life on the Road

Do you know that at the rate of waste that we create — we actually require the equivalent of 3 planet earths to manage our crap? We cannot subscribe to that which so deeply harms our planet… anymore.

Need the Bliss Machine

We’re in search of a used RV that can be made to run on veggie fuel or some other sustainable fuel. We’re jumping without the net because our message has to get out there. If you know of an RV for sale…  (or rent, buy, barter or borrow) send the deets our way.

Look Forward To

We’re hosting camping retreats, classes, potlucks and offering all of our current coaching and healing services. The only difference is that this time – it’s very likely we’ll be able to talk and work with you in person. Check our Tour Events link for scheduled cities, and blogs for our latest updates.

Reiki

We’ll be incorporating energy Healing and Reiki in most of our workshops. Our final Santa Monica (Reiki Level 1 and 2) certification class before we leave, takes place this Saturday April 23. Please email me at Gina@BlissedLife.com if you’d like to join us.

Host Us in Your Area

Contact us if you’d like to host a class in your home or town. Hosts get free classes and private sessions.

Chocolate

I can’t leave you without some chocolate. My Italian Nana taught me better than that. For some of you celebrating easter next Sunday, you might like to make these for your loved ones as a much healthier option.

This is from my upcoming book, “Are You Eating Your Bugs?”

Green Drink Bliss

By, Gina LaVerde

The right food has a magical way of making you feel good.

When we start our day with a green drink (smoothie or juice), we get a delicious jolt of energy and an amazing sense of creative clarity.

That’s because these green drink recipes are high in nutrition ( I mean like enzymes, minerals, vitamins, protein, and more love than I can count on my fingers and toes), low in sugar and extremely hydrating.

A green drink in the morning helps rehydrate us after our slumber time and also helps bring our blood back to alkaline       (when the blood s alkaline, bad stuff is less likely to lurk).

So, you want to make things better in your life?  Food is an excellent way to begin. Green drinks work for me… what works for you?

Here are some of our faves.  You can juice or blend these for different results. Play with it. See what you like best. I’ll post more tomorrow.

Kiddy Kooler:

Juice or blend 1 head romaine, 2 stalks celery, 1 cucumber and enough strawberries/raspberries to make the drink RED in color.  RED is a grounding color. Having this in the morning can be very grounding. Mix with kefir and stevia. YUM!

The Farmer’s Market ( Body Ecology Style)

In High speed blender, blend 1 bunch Swiss chard, 2 zucchini, 2 yellow squash,3 cucumbers,2 lemons,1 bunch romaine,1 inch ginger,1 bunch mint,(1 green apple or other sour fruit to sweeten if needed)

This makes  huge family sized smoothie or enough to last you the day or longer.

Kale Warrior

In high speed blender, blend 1 to 2 oz fresh ginger root, peeled and diced, 2 handfuls lacinato kale (or juice the kale and ginger first then add to blender), 2 handfuls baby spinach, 2 green apples, and water to taste

Cucumber Cooler

Blend 3 cucumbers,1 bunch cilantro,3 limes and 2 handfuls spinach and water to taste

Parslapple

Blend 1 large bunch organic parsley, 1 green apple, 1 cucumber, and 2 cups frozen berries and water to taste

Mintopolis

Blend 3 cucumbers, 1 green  apple, 1- 2  bunches of mint and water to taste

Afternoon Delight

3 stalks celery with leaves, 2 handfuls spinach, 1 head romaine, huge chunk jicama, 2 inches ginger, ½ cup soaked almonds or nut/seed/coconut milk (fermented coconut meat and kefir is a good idea for those sensitive to nuts)

Morning Zinger

Juice or blend 3 green apples, 2 lemons, 4 stalks celery, 2 inches ginger, 1 bunch of carrot tops (green part) 1 red pepper, and 2 cucumbers. Enjoy with a straw.
