Unassisted Birth/Free Birth: Violet Sky’s Story

It’s time to share more about our pregnancy and birth. As we prep for our Blissed Life Retreat, Violet and I took some time in front of the camera to share with you. There is so much more I want to share!

 

Healthy Pregnancy: Eating, Yoga and Meditation

I feel more amazing than EVER. There’s this inner sense of BLISS that keeps me KNOWING and CONNECTED. Dougie tells us “HER” name is VIOLET, and we agree. Although this tiny being is but the size of a grape at 11 weeks in womb, we know that “she” is a soul mate. Someone we have long known and long awaited.

Violet who represents the highest frequency Healing Light. The Violet Flame of Transmutation. Vision. Connection. Protection. ENLIGHTENMENT. I asked Dougie what would happen if the baby is a boy, and he says ” She is not a boy, she is my baby sister, Violet.”

Violet has been coming to me in dreams since I met my husband. And, as time passed, she’s been showing herself to me outside of dreams too. Years ago, while swinging on a park-swing in Chicago, I saw and felt her by my side.  She told me her birthday is December 2013. And, so it is.

To top off our excitement, several of my best girlfriends are also expecting bundles if BLISS soon.  Sharing this Journey with them, even from afar, inspires me to make this the ROCKINGEST time of my LIFE.

I’d love to share with you some of the things we’re doing and choices we’re making to keep the Bliss flowing.

Mom’s Health and Food

You know I’m all about eating right for your needs and that food has been my medicine for ages — helping me recover from candida, fatigue, migraines etc, and helping my son Dougie pull out of autism. Now, my body is someone’s  home for her first 9 months of life. This is a seriously amazing opportunity.

So, here’s what I’m eating and why:

Every supplement is raw and organic.

Daily Smoothies (up to 1 qt throughout the day but it varies)

Varying Ingredients:

  • Spirulina Plus (Body Ecology brand): Great source of predigested, easy to absorb super protein with REAL LIVE probiotics. Helps keep my digestive bacteria in balance, as candida yeast  can rise during pregnancy. This super food is also full of vitamins and minerals that go directly to your developing baby. The probiotics living in this food help to create vitamins in our bodies. There is even evidence that these “bugs” are responsible for making B12.
  • Chlorella (Healthforce Nutritionals Brand: Nutrient Dense super food that has a load of chlorophyll, and has even thought to deflect toxins from harming our bodies.
  • Maca: An adaptogenic super-root that we have been introduced to through Peru. It has the ability to regulate hormones, and like any other adaptogen, give your body exactly what it needs for balance. It also oxygenates our blood, and helps neurotransmitter communication. Maca is also said to help produce mother’s milk for mamas. It tastes great, a little like malt, and offers a nice grounding energy to balance out the expansive green foods mentioned above.
  • Cod Liver Oil: (I’d do krill oil if I had it here in Costa Rica) High quality fats are needed for the baby’s brain development. I find when I don’t have this, I intuitively feel something is missing. It really gives me a sense of ease throughout my body.
  • Vitamineral Green (Healthforce Nutrionals Brand): Covers a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals all in food form.
  • Ancient Earth Minerals (Body Ecology Brand): Exactly what it sounds like. This supplement offers a top-notch source of humic and fulvic minerals. Things that are now missing from most of our soils and foods. It works to support thyroid and adrenals.
  • Chia Seeds: Fiber! But also these beautiful seeds have a way of soothing stomach and joints too.
  • Hemp Seeds: Another great source of protein.
  • Hemp Seed Butter: What a yummy source of fat of fat and protein.
  • Reishi extract (Dragon Herbs/22 Reishis): Perhaps my favorite Herb. As an adaptogen Reishi really supports every bodily system. Reishi works on our physical bodies, but also has a distinct role in increasing our spiritual connection and overall “spirit” for life. I’ve been told by Chinese doctors that they can tell when a mama consumes Reishi during pregnancy.
  • Reishi Tea: I feel a more yin support ( core support/kidneys) when I drink Reishi Tea. A little vanilla and stevia and it takes the place of coffee for me.  Sometimes, I use Reishi Tea in my smoothies. Sometimes drink it warm. Reishi also keeps our candida index down.
  • Coconut Kefir: Amazing source of probiotics and mineral. Gives me energy. Helps build the baby’s inner eco system and immune system.

These ingredients will be blended with coconut or avocado and frozen berries or frozen plantain from our trees in Costa Rica.

Other Delicious Raw Organic Power Foods

  • Cultured Veggies (Cabbage, Beet, minerals added): Helps digest everything else. Tastes Great and filled with probiotics too.
  • Earth (Vitamineral Green Brand) another delicious form of  high-quality minerals that tastes great on warm foods like eggs, sautéed veggies, soups.
  • Young Coconut water and Coconut Meat:
  • Coconut Oil: Healthy fat with amazing healing power for thyroid and more. This oil can be heated without becoming toxic, so its the only oil I use for cooking.
  • Every color of veggie!: I’m having huge salads and feeling very drawn to the taste vegetables! Yum!
  • Black berries and strawberries:
  • Local goat cheese: Ask Violet. This stuff tastes like Heaven to me right now. I’ve read not to eat raw cheese when preggers. This to me, doesn’t seem logical. In it’s raw state, cheese has the enzymes needed to digest.  If there were pathogenic bacteria on the cheese I chose to eat, In wouldn’t chose it. But, I am not suggesting that you follow my lead on this one. I can tell a difference between raw and pasteurized cheese. I cannot even digest pasteurized cheese. Again, this offers some fats and proteins.

Delicious Cooked Foods on the menu:

  • Egg Omelets (Made by Dougie): Served with veggies and cultured veggies. I’m normally not an egg fan, but I’m loving them a few times a week. We keep them a bit runny and raw.
  • Fish Cakes, Fish  salads: Local Costa Rican caught small white fishes (lowest mercury) blended with spices and herbs. I’m having fish a few times per week too. I’d have it every day if I could keep up with myself.
  • Rice noodles with home-made sauces and dressings

Treats and Sweets

I went gluten free again officially in January. It totally helped clear me of  back and joint pain and I literally felt like a veil lifted. I intended to have  a gluten-free pregnancy too. But, had a few slices of home-made organic pizza here in Costa Rica. I totally LOVED it! I think Violet did too. We’ll see how the rest of the time goes. Because we found a few places who make gluten-free treats that are sweetened with fruits.

  • Almond flour banana-nut Cupcake
  • Raw Banana Ice Cream
  • Raw Chocolate Bar

Foods I’m not Loving

Some of my normal favorites are not so awesome right now. I’m not able to digest them very well, and my body is just saying no.

  • Brown Rice
  • Quinoa
  • Beans of any kind
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Watermelon

Yoga:

Violet’s got me going deeper and playing with yoga much more than usual. I find slower, longer poses and deep stretches are giving me energy, keeping me flexible and pain-free AND helping my digestion. I have  a notion that yoga during pregnancy will make for a more comfortable labor and birth. Not to mention increase oxygen flow to the baby and help with her development.

My last yoga class in California, before we headed out to Costa Rica, left me feeling strangely unbalanced. I couldn’t hold a pose. I couldn’t breathe fully down to my core. I kept tipping over during Tree Pose. The pregnancy definitely changed me.

Now, I’m yoga-ing for about 3 hours a day.  My body leads me into Cat/Cow, Down Dog/Up dog, forward bends and light back bends. I just listen to what I need and with each stretch my body feels even more BLISSED. I’m lightly focussing on hip openers, blood flow and strength and endurance. The slower pace feels like its allowing me to heal my body even further. Who would’ve thought? I used to think pregnancy was about giving your body to another person. I know. I know. But, now I see that she is giving me so much healing as well.

Meditation:

We’re feeling an un-assisted birth will be the best for us (and we did have one).  So it’s even more important to connect on a vibrational level with the soul we are welcoming. To make sure we are fulfilling her needs and wants. To make sure that the experience will flow in a healthy way. Positive affirmations have helped me a lot. So has Kirtan music like Krishna Das and Snatam Kaur. I take time throughout the day to pause and create and recognize the flow of LOVE between Violet and me. I’ve been internally talking to her about her positioning and her absorption of nutrients as she grows I send each bite of food down with a gratitude blessing and intention for each food or plant’s medicine to reach her.

I share Reiki with her too. I’m making space in my day to meditate for longer periods and really have a more complete sense of Violet’s needs. Intuition is up now, and it will be my strongest tool for preparing for this miracle.

How do You Meditate?

How do you get yourself in the mindset to connect deeper? Did you ever think that this process is different for everyone?

I used to spend so much time thinking and talking with others about my meditations. The way that I was practicing them. What I was hearing from Source. And, of course, I thought plenty on how long I was staying in meditation.

I thought about all of the things that I have learned from those meditative “masters” I knew who had a healthy regimen. I thought about people telling me that I needed to sit in silence for an hour and not let my mind wander.

“It gets easier the more you do it,” I kept hearing.

Problem is that often times I found it hard to take an hour out of my day to just sit. I have a highly analytical and quest-driven mind. I like obstacles. How do I follow all of these meditation guidelines and still get my meditative rewards?

I was looking for answers and guidance from Source, the infinite, universal nature. I had already been receiving insights all my life and I knew there was more to be achieved through meditation.

“Relax. Stay relaxed, ” I simply kept telling myself to enjoy the process. It’s my core belief, and I wasn’t doing it with the one practice that I craved so deeply. I smiled at myself and my silliness, as I came up with a new form of meditation that made sense for me and my day.

I started focusing on my joy response and went from there. The thing that I can recall that connects all of my miraculously received messages is my attitude at the time of receiving them. I was in the light of acceptance. I was seeking the guidance on my own terms, with my own beliefs.

This is What I Do

I calm my mind and think of one of the many beautiful places that I have been.

Sometimes I think of my son or wife or just a great memory. Then I color the picture as perfect as I can in my mind. Make it vivid. I taste and smell the memory. Then when it’s clear and I am enjoying the moment and completely in the memory, I focus in on the feeling that I received from this recollection.

The Joy Response

From here I can allow my mind to wander and ask for messages to come. I will do this on walks (be careful), during yoga (much easier), or any time when I have a minute to relax. At a bare minimum, the joy response is worth creating inside yourself. Just stop and try it now, by focussing on something that makes you smile. It’s relaxing, and that is what it’s all about. That’s how you begin to get your mind in the right frame for Real Meditation.

Have Fun

I don’t believe that there is one way for all of us. What works for me might not work for you, but it might get you started on discovering your own methods. I genuinely feel that we all have these abilities, but the way that we learn to explore them will be different.

I like keeping an open and accepting mind. You never know when you will learn something new and need to change a part of your life to become more of the true you. We are amazing creators, so create what you want in life.

Manifestation Reality

The other day I met up with some friends who I hadn’t seen in a long time and of course we got into a rather deep conversation about life and what we are doing in our own realities. It seems like this discussion is always coming up with me wether it be with a stranger or a life partner. While having the conversation I sat back and reflected to myself about how truly amazing we all are and what makes us do what we all do on a daily basis.

I was thinking about the person who goes to his job in a cubicle, the yoga instructor who sings to her students, the business man who drives his Lamborghini to his favorite coffee shop across the street instead of walking. We are all living out our realities. We have all chosen to be here. We have chosen to subscribe to this reality and participate in its course.

Gina and I have been talking so much about the subject of reality lately that it really gets my head spinning at times.

I believe that each person lives in his/her own reality in correspondence with everyone else, but that doesn’t mean that everyone is living in the same reality. I am not talking about parallel realities here, which is another equally interesting and important concept. I am talking about people living in your reality, however completely disconnected from the life that you have created.

Have you ever wondered how others varied so much from you in their perspectives, ideals and awareness? How are people allowing problems in their realities and not seemingly noticing them. It’s as if you are living in another world. Maybe the truth isn’t so far off. Just like the colorblind man, these others can not see the colors of the beautiful butterfly or the red blood on a politicians money, because you can’t see what you don’t know is there.

We are all here to live out our realities. I believe my life is a quest to learn and grow. The wonderful truth about it is that none of us can say for certain what our purpose is here, for none of us can prove indefinitely where we come from or how we managed into this physical form. It is all simply guesses, educated or not.

I am here to learn and grow. To do the acts that bring me into awareness and a highly developed consciousness. I couldn’t imagine a life without miraculous events and new experiences. I have come too far to subscribe to someone else’s ideas of life. It is my path to explore and be me at all costs. Some people blindly follow doctors orders, where I wouldn’t blindly follow anything. It’s more than the acceptance of someone else’s view point, it’s the desire to live my path next to theirs and understand that we are all on our own paths. That path is theirs and this path is mine.

I’ve learned to love everyone for their unique journey and never worry for their safety. I find myself worrying less each minute. Worry never changed my situation, it only incorporated into my reality. Live the life you want to. I believe it is the reason that you and I are here. I hope to see you out there smiling. Gratitude Journal Experiment Days 17-22: Gratitude Journaling Results

Wow! All of this thankful talk has really got me. I’m amazed. We’ve come full circle in so little time, all because we stopped stressing over what was bothering us and kept focus on what makes us happy.

Last month seems like a dream to me now. Back then I was whimpering over plumbing problems in the third world country we decided to visit on our Tour de Bliss– and now, I’m lounging in a comfy chair on a breezy roof-deck listening to the birds and roosters sing.

If we were setting out to improve anything, it would’ve been our financial situation and how that also relates to all of those material human stuffs that we need for balance such as our physical health and connection to our bodies, availability of healthy food, our home-front, and our business and work situation. When things seemed to get “bad” for us, it was always on the material front. Our spirits freaken shine like neon lights. We know we are on the right life path. But, there have been times when we’ve cheated ourselves out of full reward for our work. This left us tired, sick and often struggle-working for money.

We created the gratitude experiment to change that. Not knowing what we could possibly do differently, on the work front (as far as career changes etc), we decided to put extra faith in what we already do. We teach people about energy, love, gratitude and co-creation of Bliss.

So, we’ve given ourselves an extra heaping helping of our own medicine.

The Results:

Having done this each day for close to a month now has helped us measure some concrete results.

We have officially increased our readership, private client base and income, and still been able to spend less time online

We’ve greatly improved our homeschool/unschool program for Dougie and he seems to be learning in greater detail and with greater interest and involvement.

We have met countless amazing people in our new town and have been shown amazing generosity and hospitality. We have found everything we were looking for in a town that will provide us with healthy food, friends, support, stability, fun, conscious events and more.

Can you just tell that we’re happy? We’re satisfied! We will be teaching some classes and setting up shop here (with a few small trips to ruins etc) until we get our new Bliss Mobile. Looks like after 12 years, we’re in a place inside ourselves that fosters creativity and spirit enough for me to feel like I can continue writing a novel series I started so long ago. Gratitude seriously reminds me that that place has always been there, it’s just ever -growing. Now, I see it more clearly.

Inspired By Today: Jennifer Carr, “Today You are You”

In case you didn’t know, I’ve got rockin friends. I’m a complete amalgamation of the inspirations bestowed upon me by the amazing people I know.  I love that I’ve called these relationships and experience into my life. A blog by my  friend Tricia Huffman, the one and only “Joyologist” inspired me to create a category here where I share  just who inspires me, and how they do it. So that you too can feel the BLISS.

Today, I am inspired by someone who has taken parent activism and home grown love and acceptance to new levels. Jennifer Carr is raising to beauties in the big city, and she somehow makes time to write books, speak in public, yoga it up and, write one of the best blogs I’ve ever read. 

Jen has a gender diverse child, and blogs about the great awakenings gifted to her as part of understanding, advocating for  and loving her child. She is a real mom who digs yoga and sometimes get stressed or confused and she shares that. I can so relate to the perfectionist in her who wants to help and get it all right all the time.

Like Jen, I have a child  whose uniqueness turned me into an activist for children’s health. I think we are all blessed with the perfect families and children who will teach us the life lessons we need to learn. Often, when I was searching for how to handle my  “problems” whole healing Dougie from autism, I steered away from “autism” websites.  I wanted something more inspiring. Something that told me everything will truly be okay.  Jennifer Carr’s site is like that.

“Today You are You ” is the name of her site, and a quote from one of my favorite authors, Dr. Suess.  Being YOU is all you really can be. So, when you really embrace that and decide that you are amazing, you will discover the many gifts you have. These are gifts that the world needs.

I believe that the world is in dire need of gender acceptance, and Love and Bliss for all of those who decide to be who they feel they truly are instead of who society pre-determines them to be. The energy of the world is shifting. Old systems are dying. These children are our future and they are creating quite a bright future. It’s parents like Jen, who actively clear the way for our children who are making that future possible.

I don’t have a gender diverse child. I don’t deal with exactly the same things that Jen does. But, I am constantly finding myself inspired by her posts and even using them to help me in my life and parenting.  We truly are all ONE.WE all want love and acceptance. We all want to be ourselves.

Today You are You, for real. What can you do today to be the youest you? What do you need to do to sigh that beautiful breath of relief that comes with being true to yourself. Do it! I’m here with you.

What I used to be Grateful For

I used to be grateful that the parts that hurt would soon be over….that wounds would heal, relationships would mend, I’d finally finish my work, I wouldn’t have to deal with the in-laws for too long, money would come, I’d pay my bills, friends would come back, my parents would one day understand me, I’d be given “a break,” my baby would heal and life would one day just be all fine and normal once I got over the hump. I survived those humps and bumps by mentally leaving my body and living in an only half-waked state.

The other day, I stopped washing dishes because my back hurt so badly that I was nearing tears. First, I thought, “how could pain just creep up on me like that?” But, creeping it did not. I was standing there hunched over the sink in such a mangled and jangled way, for over a half hour without noticing. Where was my mind? How did I not notice?

Well, I’ll tell you where my mind was.  The old brain was on autopilot, while my consciousness took a trip down memory lane, through the halls of time, somewhere over the rainbow and anywhere but in the now. I left my body because I didn’t like what was going on. I really don’t like housework. Who does? But, I’ve learned to leave my body whenever things get painful. You know what this really does? It creates patterns of scars. And it creates a pattern for me to keep doing it.

Whoa, deep stuff, right?

So, now I am grateful that I realized this about myself and that I have been doing this since I was a kid. When we’re talking survival mode, yeah, it’s  awesome to have this ability. I’ve needed it.

Now, I am grateful for NOW. Whatever my now holds is definitely something I want to check out. My body hurts from all this mental neglect, it’s true. And I’m grateful because it reminds me that I have this dreamy ability to travel those halls of time. But, as I put more attention to my physical body, I become connected to that dreamy quality on a higher level. It kinda rocks.

Let’s All Do Something Great Today

What is it that makes you happy, and how come you don’t do it enough?

I was reflecting the other day after I was done with yoga about how great I felt, and I started wondering why I don’t try to always feel this way.

I used  to blame the lack of indulging myself with treats on my job.  Since I no longer have a job to go to, it has luckily been making it difficult to come up with reasonable excuses.  I think that we all hold ourselves back to some degree when it comes to taking care of our mind, body and spirit.  It’s like we figure that if we push a little harder that there will be some light at the end of the tunnel and we will be able to enjoy our indulgences soon enough.

Why do we do that, though?  We know that something is good for us, yet we find reasons to not do it.  If you know that something not only feels great, but also is great for you, then, do it!  We all have fast paced lives and the world isn’t going to stop for any of us.  We are constantly trying to reach a new goal and in the meanwhile we put ourselves off to the side.  We should take all of our excuses and fears and turn them into our greatest assets.  Let’s look at the obstacles that stop us and find ways to make them work towards our goals instead of keeping us from doing what we really want.  If someone is telling you that you have too much work to get done, then say “well I better get my spirits up if I am going to produce a great product.”  Let those fears wash right over you and help guide you into a better lifestyle.  Reflect on the activities that make you the happiest.  What would you really like to be doing?

Let’s all do something great today.  Let’s do it when we aren’t even thinking about it.  In that perfect moment when you’re feeling like it’s simply time for you –act upon it.  You don’t need to plan the exact moment that you are going to stop preoccupying yourself with work.  Just let the feeling come to you.

Think of the things that you can do Right Now where you are to bring a smile to your face.

Just make sure that no matter what you are doing, you are doing it for the right reasons.  The idea here is not to create more drama in your already hectic life.  We are trying to awaken your true self.  Let’s get that kid in you out here to do some of the things that you really want to do.

Stretch, run, play, talk, scream, eat great food, exercise, love, swing, jump, rest, pray, meditate, breathe.  Just make the time for it now!

Let it catch on with the people around you.  Grab that smile and throw it on your face, and let them see you walking around happy all the time.  People will come up and ask why you are cheerful and you can tell them to kick loose as well.  Let people know that you are taking some time for you to get your relax on.  Let’s see if we can get the world to ease up just a little bit today.
